The Leeds midfielder took his game to new heights against Mick McCarthy's Ipswich side.
After two straight defeats, Wednesday night was a good one for Leeds United - and a good one for midfielder Luke Murphy.
Another good one, to be precise, as the Leeds midfielder has been superb ever since Neil Redfearn restored him to the Yorkshire side's starting XI several weeks ago.
As Alex Mowatt and Billy Sharp netted at Elland Road, while Marco Silvestri atoned for a costly error by saving a late penalty against Ipswich Town, Murphy didn't partake in any of the drama - instead going about his business in a solid, workmanlike manner.
That hard work paid off, however, as the 25-year-old's display against Ipswich became the subject of heavy praise from Leeds fans on Twitter after the game.
And rightly so.
|Match||Tackles Won||Minutes Played|
|Luke Murphy||Leeds vs Ipswich||6||90|
|Luke Murphy||Leeds vs Bournemouth||5||90|
|Luke Murphy||Reading vs Leeds||5||90|
|Luke Murphy||Leeds vs Millwall||4||90|
|Luke Murphy||Brighton vs Leeds||4||90|
Sometimes, a group of statistics best illustrate a footballer's performance. In this case, however, just one Opta stat is required.
Indeed, Murphy won six tackles against Ipswich at Elland Road - his best game of the season in the tackling department.
And that sums the 25-year-old's contribution up. Steady and solid in the middle, Murphy offered Leeds' back four protection and won the ball where it needed to be won.
Without him, Leeds' flair players couldn't strut their stuff - and defence couldn't link to attack anywhere near as well. Murphy was outstanding yet again v Ipswich; he has become one of Redfearn's outstanding players of this season as a whole.
