Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a setback in their quest to finish in the Championship playoffs this season on Tuesday.
Kenny Jackett’s side headed into the game against Bournemouth away from home high on confidence following three successive wins.
During that period, Wolves had scored as many as nine goals without conceding any, and many would have expected them to make it four wins out of four on Tuesday.
However, Bournemouth are a strong team and are aiming for promotion themselves, and they showed their quality against Wolves.
The Cherries took the lead at the Goldsands Stadium after just 10 minutes when Yann Kermorgant turned in Callum Wilson's cross.
Benik Afobe equalised for the visitors six minutes before the half-time interval when he slotted the ball in past Artur Boruc following Kevin McDonald's superb through-ball.
However, Bournemouth secured the three points four minutes into the second half when Kermorgant found the target from the penalty spot after Richard Stearman had brought down Wilson inside the Wolves penalty box.
The 2-1 defeat in Bournemouth leaves Wolves eighth in the Championship table with 57 points from 35 matches, four points behind sixth-placed Brentford.
Following the match, Wolves duo Danny Batth and Afobe took to social networking site Twitter to express their disappointment with the final result.
Tough Result to take but the important thing now is we stick together & bounce back Saturday. Great following again pic.twitter.com/y5qapLRJdI— Danny Batth 'Bart' (@Danny_Batth) March 3, 2015
