Why Celtic are better off without want-away Guidetti

Celtic should not make a move to sign John Guidetti permanently at the end of the season.

The Scotsman is among several sources to have reported that John Guidetti is keen to return to the Netherlands with Feyenoord.

The striker, on loan at the Bhoys from Manchester City, becomes a free agent this summer and the Scottish giants shouldn’t make a move to sign him permanently for a number of reasons.

Firstly, his attitude is flawed and doesn’t fit in with Ronny Deila’s style and the philosophy he’s trying to create at the club.

It’s no use for the Bhoys to have an unmotivated player in their squad who is thinking about a future away from the club.

One of the things Celtic have demonstrated in recent weeks is the impressive team spirit and unity they have, which all players must adhere to.

He’s got the talent, but Deila seems like the sort of boss who would rather have a less talented player with more motivation representing his club in the right way.

Secondly, there are questions over his fitness. Ronny Deila has just admitted, as reported by the Daily Mail, that he pays particular interest to the effort his team are putting in and drilling them in terms of fitness so they can run more during games.

It ties back into the point about motivation, but Guidetti is never going to impress Deila if he doesn’t try and make a difference in one of the key areas he’s studying all over the team on a match by match basis.

Thirdly, the club already have good options in their squad and players who offer Deila attacking options.

Leigh Griffiths is arguably a better option up front, Stefan Scepovic could come back into the side and in both cases, they could show the extra motivation and passion that Guidetti seems to be missing.

If he stays he needs to buck up his ideas, if he leaves Celtic will move on.
