Sunderland battled their way to a point against Hull City last night as their fight to avoid relegation to the Championship continues.
Credit has to go to the Black Cats for taking something away from the game last night thanks to a Jack Rodwell goal.
Rodwell has suffered with injury problems this season, but he’s a top quality player who deserves praise for doing the business in an important game for the club.
Things are really tense at the moment but there’s a little bit of a cushion for Sunderland just above the bottom three as things stand.
Other sides play this evening, but it’s better to have points on the board and Poyet will be keen for the side to secure a vital win when the Premier League action returns.
It’s the FA Cup this weekend, which means a chance for Sunderland and Rodwell to rest and the manager faces a challenge in terms of how he uses the midfielder over the rest of the season.
He can throw him into the team routinely as long as he’s not showing any signs of suffering from fitness problems between matches.
Fortunately for the Black Cats, they only play once per week for the rest of the campaign, which means good and long recovery periods for Rodwell between matches.
If Poyet can keep him fit, motivated and effective in the system he’s using for the team, there’s no reason he can’t repeat the positive performance and heroics he produced last night.
He’s scoring, he’s influencing games from the middle of the pitch and he’s embodying the fighting spirit that Poyet will want to see from all of his Sunderland players at the moment.
Here’s what Sunderland fans on Twitter had to say about his performance last night.
Jack Rodwell was in the middle of just about everything as Sunderland came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Hull City at the KC Stadium.— Sapere Aude (@PrimaScriptura) March 4, 2015
@Sunlunfan Rodwell got better as the game went on. Vergini has to be dropped for me!— Stephen Blacklock (@TheStevieB1) March 4, 2015

Another thing....aye Rodwell took a dive, but after the way Bruce clearly told them to act against us both games last year, he cant complain— Gary Baker (@GazbSAFC) March 4, 2015
