Southampton got back to winning ways on Tuesday evening when they overcame Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace side 1-0.
The result saw the Saints climb to within a point of fourth-placed Manchester United, and put an end to a worrying goal-drought at St Mary’s.
Sadio Mane’s 83rd-minute goal was Southampton’s first at home for nearly six-and-a-half hours and it would have come as a welcome relief to their manager Ronald Koeman.
Although Mane scored the vital goal, it was another Southampton player who delivered a midfield masterclass to help his side to victory.
Morgan Schneiderlin was brilliant throughout, ending the game with a 94 per cent pass accuracy but also showing just why he has reportedly been attracting interest from a number of other clubs.

Southampton's star midfielder made three key passes to set up goal-scoring opportunities for a teammate. He also had two shots of his own, won two interceptions and made five successful tackles.
But among his most impressive statistics were his 11 ball recoveries and his 12 duels won (10 on the ground and two in the air).
At 25, Schneiderlin is now approaching the peak of his career and Koeman will be hoping he delivers plenty more performances like this both for the rest of this season and in the campaigns yet to come.
