Jose Mourinho’s side currently lead second placed Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table by five points, although they do have a game in hand over the reigning champions.
Many expect them to win that spare game and extend their lead at the top to eight points; a gap that many think City will not be able to claw back. The Blues have already won the Capital One cup this season, although neither the team nor their style of football has impressed Manchester United legend Scholes.
“I’ve not been overly impressed by Chelsea,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“They’ve just done it in a way that they normally do, workmanlike. Workman like might be a little bit harsh but it’s not been the most entertaining or free flowing football you’ll ever see.”
Despite that, Scholes says the blame must fall on their opponents rather than the Chelsea, who have simply just taken advantage of the circumstances.
Only Manchester City have challenged Chelsea for top spot this season, with those two some distance off the rest of the chasing pack, who are all competing for the final Champions League places.
One of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Southampton and Tottenham could all end up in the final two places come the end of the season, and Scholes says their lack of performances has given the title to Chelsea.
“The teams around them really haven’t performed either," added Scholes”
“It’s let them [Chelsea] off the hook.”
