Rangers boss disappointed in his players - except for Murdoch and Hutton

Kenny McDowall has singled the midfield duo out for praise but fired a warning to the rest of his squad.

Rangers boss Kenny McDowall has fired a warning to his underperforming stars but singled young midfield duo Andy Murdoch and Kyle Hutton out for praise, according to the club's official website.

The Gers drew 1-1 at Falkirk on Friday night, returning to their disappointing recent trend of failing to secure wins the club's fans may feel they should be getting.

Falkirk are only a place behind Rangers but, while the home side earned their draw, the Gers disappointed with their performance levels.

And manager McDowall has said as much in the wake of the performance, telling his squad they must improve ahead of their coming Scottish Championship clashes.

According to the Rangers boss, only two players stood out in terms of fight and work-rate - young Murdoch and 24-year-old Hutton.

"The two (Murdoch and Hutton) battled away and fought their corner but we were below par from what we are expecting. The players know that themselves that they need to pick it up again," he said.

Murdoch, 20, has recently signed a new contract with Rangers, with supporters generally praising the young talent but some also wondering whether the Gers have been too hasty in giving him a new deal.

Hutton, meanwhile, has often stood out for the Scottish Championship side this term, although neither could do enough to make up for a disappointing display from their team-mates last week.
