The pair were integral members of last summer's Netherlands World Cup squad.
United on the other hand are having it rough. An unconvincing win against Sunderland at the weekend comes amid criticism of their style of play under Louis van Gaal.
After the World Cup in the summer not many would have envisaged United playing such unattractive football. Van Gaal's Netherlands side were breathtaking at times in Brazil last summer, including in a 5-1 win against Spain.
Two players that were integral to that Dutch team will face up against Van Gaal this evening. Daryl Janmaat will be at right-back for The Magpies this evening, and he was a vital member of Van Gaal's team.
He played the right wing-back role, opposite current United man Daley Blind, with aplomb and earned rave reviews. Eventually that led to a move to Newcastle from Feyenoord.
Then there was Tim Krul, who played a vital part in Van Gaal's side progression to the semi-finals.
The Newcastle stopper was back-up in the tournament to Ajax keeper Jasper Cillessen. However, when Holland went to penalties against Costa Rica in the quarter-finals, Van Gaal decided to bring Krul on to face the shoot-out.
The rest is history. A masterstroke from Van Gaal as Krul saved two penalties to send The Netherlands through.
Van Gaal will be hoping these two former players do not perform as well this evening when they take on his Manchester United team.
