Manchester City latest: Early team news and Nastasic update

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester City

Manchester City welcome Leicester City to the Etihad Stadium this evening with the Blues knowing they cannot afford to drop any more points if they harbour thoughts of overtaking current league leaders Chelsea.

City are five points behind Jose Mourinho’s side having played a game more, and the Foxes will take confidence from the game they gave Manuel Pellegrini’s men earlier in the campaign.

In early team news, the BBC reports that City have a full quota of players to choose from, with January signing Wilfried Bony tipped to make his first start after three previous substitute appearances.

As for Leicester, Kasper Schmeichel remains out but manager Nigel Pearson is said to have an otherwise clean bill of health.

In other news, the Manchester Evening News reports that German side Schalke are hopeful of turning Matija Nastasic’s loan move into a permanent deal at the end of the current campaign.

The Serbian centre-back temporarily moved to the Bundesliga side in January and now Schalke’s general manager Horst Heldt has confirmed there is an option to buy.

“There is an option to buy Matija Nastasic that comes into force after a certain amount of minutes he’s played and Nastasic’s first weeks in general,” Horst said.

The 21-year-old has made 51 appearances for City but his time at the Etihad Stadium appeared to be up when he did not play again after the Community Shield back in August.
