Liverpool media round-up, mooted injury news, Rodgers on job security and squad depth

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is said to be struggling ahead of tonight's game against Burnley after playing with an injection in Sunday's win over Manchester City, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Mirror also reports that Steven Gerrard could return from a hamstring injury after it was mooted that tonight's game would be too early for the Reds' skipper.

Brendan Rodgers is quoted in several national newspapers this morning saying he feared the sack after the 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in November that left his side in the bottom half of the table.

The Reds have managed to turn things around since to leave themselves three points off third place, and are fancied by many to break into the Champions League places after an impressive run stretching back to December.

The Liverpool boss said: “My experience at Reading told me that. That’s what I learned from that sacking there. I went in with the full backing of the chairman, who was great to me, and I got the sack after 20 games.

“What I learned from that is it does not matter how much support you have in the boardroom - from the directors, the executives - you have to get results and you have to win."

The Liverpool manager has also been commenting on the importance of his side's squad depth this season following a transfer window in the summer where he brought in as many as nine players.

The Liverpool Echo quotes him, saying: “The squad depth has been important.

“I don’t want too many players, that’s the honesty of it.

“Really you want 16/17 that you know you can put in and I like to have young players on top of that I can put in."
