As per TMW, the Bundesliga club are keen on signing Fiorentina centre-back Savic, and could be moving for him in the summer.
24-year-old Savic is best known in England for a one-year stay with Manchester City, during which he did little of note. Eleven games brought a return of one goal, as well as a Premier League winner’s medal for the 2011/12 campaign.
The Montenegro international’s career immediately sent him to Italy following that season, and he has since become a key part of Fiorentina’s defence under Vincenzo Montella. Upwards of 80 performances have been registered for Savic in Serie A, and he is starting to restore some of the reputation lost during his stay with City.
It is this increase in profile that reportedly has Borussia Dortmund looking to sign him. As per TMW, Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing the centre-half to Dortmund before next season, and that opens the door for Mats Hummels to sign for Manchester United.
Germany international Hummels has long been linked with United, with the most recent report in the Mirror once again fuelling the fire. The centre-back is considered to be the fix to the Red Devils ongoing defensive issues, and it would come as no surprise to see him finally make the switch to Old Trafford this summer. Although recovering in the second half of the season, Dortmund may miss out on Champions League qualification, and United should ensure they do secure European football to hold an advantage in the race for his signature.
The TMW report claims that Dortmund will willingly let Hummels leave the club if a deal for Savic can be reached and, aside from being settled in Italy, it is hard to see why Savic would refuse such a transfer.
This certainly puts the ball in United’s court ahead of a potential summer move for Hummels, and they should be doing all they can to sign the 26-year-old centre-half.
