Alves is out of contract in the summer and has been assessing his options before deciding whether to sign a new deal with the La Liga club, and his agent has told AS that the Brazilian is close to moving on.
At the age of 31, one would expect his next move to be the last big contract he can receive in his career, and he has reportedly been stalling on Barca’s offer as it lowers his current wage packet and only ensures one more season of football. As stated in Marca, the full-back is against their current terms and that has opened the door for a summer exit.
The Manchester Evening News has reported on interest from Manchester United, and it is said that they will be willing to match the demands that Alves has submitted. The right-back position is one that needs strengthening at Old Trafford and, although not able to offer years of service, Alves is certainly a high quality short-term fix.
The article states that Alves’s agent, Dinorah Santana, has been in contact with the Premier League club, as well as Barca, and is attempting to agree terms prior to the start of pre-season.
And a new article published in AS suggests that the deal to take Alves to Manchester United has moved to an even more advanced stage. Without naming the team, Santana has revealed that the full-back is “close to signing for another club, talks are underway.”
Although there is no confirmation that United are indeed the team in talks with Alves, they are the club most linked with him, and Santana refers to ‘another club’, suggesting an exit from Camp Nou. He may end up moving elsewhere, but Old Trafford would appear to be the most likely destination for the highly decorated Brazil international.
