Arsenal legend Ian Wright has been singing the praises of Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho in The Sun.
The Brazil international playmaker has been in superb form for Liverpool in recent weeks and has been one of the main reasons behind their rise up the Premier League table.
In 24 Premier League appearances so far this season, the 22-year-old has scored four goals and created 30 chances, while having a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 56%.
Coutinho scored a superb goal from 25 yards against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium last month, and he followed that up with another sensational strike from a similar distance against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
Former Arsenal striker Wright seems to be hugely impressed with Coutinho and has been waxing lyrical about the former Inter Milan youngster.
“Liverpool have now lost just once in 19 games and Coutinho has arguably played a bigger part in that run than anyone,” the former Celtic striker wrote in The Sun. “Not bad for a guy who cost just £8.5million two years ago.
“No less a player than Neymar insisted recently that Coutinho could be the biggest star in the Premier League. I thought that was maybe going over the top a bit at the time – now I’m not so sure.”
Wright makes a huge comment about Coutinho’s importance in the Liverpool team over the past 19 matches, but perhaps he is right.
The Brazilian has been the creative fulcrum for the Merseyside outfit and seems to be enjoying the freedom in the ‘number 10’ role that he is being given by manager Brendan Rodgers.
Coutinho did not start the season well, but his performances over the past few months are testament to his class and quality.
For Liverpool to finish in the top four of the Premier League this campaign, Coutinho needs to continue to perform the way he has been doing in recent weeks.
