Arsenal Invincible Gilberto Silva: Mesut Ozil can look “quite slow”

The Brazilian has stated that the playmaker needs to do more for the club to challenge the Premier League’s frontrunners.

Arsenal have been one of the form teams in the Premier League in 2015, with Arsene Wenger’s men propelling themselves into the top four and looking odds-on to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The Emirates Stadium faithful are desperate for success and have been frustrated with the North London club’s reluctance to spend big on players in the past.

However, since the club has become more financially successful following the move to the Emirates Stadium, the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have been brought to England at great expense.

The Germany international provided two assists in the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Everton at the weekend but has still not displayed his best form in the Premier League.

With the Arsenal fans split over Ozil, former player Gilberto Silva has had his say on the diminutive playmaker.

A member of the Invincibles side, the Brazilian stated that the former Real Madrid midfielder can look slow at times but has the ability to improve.

“You speak about Arsenal and how they don’t spend big money on a player often but they did with (Mesut) Ozil and it is always a bit risky,” the London Evening Standard quote Silva as saying.

“Coming from Spain it is tough to adapt, it doesn’t always happen straight away.

“I think the most important thing is that the player understands the philosophy of the team, the philosophy of the manager and the expectation from the fans.

“I do really like him as a player but sometimes in the game he does look quite slow, although he has that quality to change the game.

“He can be more decisive for Arsenal for the quality he has, he can be much more decisive for the club.”

Interestingly, Alexis Sanchez’s form has dipped slightly since Ozil’s return to the side after injury and the pair seemingly have work to do to function effectively.

Arsenal travel to face QPR tonight and will look to continue their strong run of recent domestic form.
