Arsene Wenger has given his thoughts on the race for a top four place.
Arsenal are well placed to compete for a top four finish this season and the Frenchman has suggested a quality he embodies is going to be key over the rest of the campaign; consistency.
“It's very tight. Man City are four points ahead and there are plenty of people chasing us in the top four. It's down to consistency,” said the boss.
“We have seen things change quickly in the last two or three months of the season. We have to focus on finishing as well as we can.”
Wenger’s record in relation to the top four since he joined the club has defined consistency.
There is even an argument to suggest that the Gunners should be aiming to chase down Manchester City and be aiming for second place.
That would remove the need for the side to play qualifiers for the Champions League, as they would go into the draw for next season’s competition automatically.
Either way, comfortable qualification into the tournament for next season is important for a variety of reasons.
Automatic qualification would ease the pressure on the players at the start of a busy campaign and it’s also important for financial reasons.
The competition also allows Arsenal to attract some of the best players in the world, which in turn allows them to develop and boast one of the strongest squads of players in the country.
It’s also important for the development of the club’s younger players, with some sampling the competition for the first team.
Consistency is the key according to Wenger and because of that, they are a solid bet for a top four place.
