Former Arsenal midfielder Edu says Chilean international Alexis Sanchez is the club’s Player of the Season so far and one of the top five players in the world, the Daily Star reports.
Sanchez’s importance to Arsene Wenger’s men is undeniable and Edu feels his influence on the team and creativity in the final third puts him at the top of the pile in terms of the Player of the Year nominees so far.
“At the moment he is doing fantastically well for Arsenal – he is arguably their best player of the season so far," Edu was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“Many people say that he is one of the current top five players in the world in the position he plays in.
“He was also very good at Barcelona last season and that gave him great experience by playing for such a large club. He is a very important player for Arsenal."
Is Alexis Sanchez the big favourite for Arsenal’s Player of the Year award?
In terms of impact and importance, the Gunners’ playmaker along with Chelsea’s Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas is among the best signings made last summer.
Aside from his obvious goals and creativity, Sanchez is unique in that he is fully prepared to do the work most playmakers stay away from – tracking back and defending from the front.
It has been stated on more than one occasion this season that his nickname in the North Londoners’ dressing room is Duracell, and owing to his energetic presence it’s easy to see why.
A clear fan favourite and easy on the eye, Sanchez would easily win the Gunners’ POTY if it were tomorrow and there seems little reason why that will change over the next ten weeks.
