Manchester United are reportedly preparing a summer transfer for a highly-rated Spanish youth international.
Manchester United will likely be raiding the summer transfer market to ensure some competitive purchases, and there is one target that the club are already believed to be scouting.
The names of a host of defenders have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but the midfield is also in need of some strengthening, and it appears that the Red Devils may have found their first-choice target.
The youngster has been capped at every youth level for Spain, and is currently turning out for the Under-21 side - with 11 caps to his name. A central midfielder, Saul had made just 12 appearances for Atletico prior to the start of this campaign, and he spent last season on loan with Rayo Vallecano - scoring two goals in 37 games.
He returned to the Vicente Calderon at the start of this term, and has since cemented himself as a key first-team player, scoring three times in 24 appearances for the reigning La Liga champions.
What would this mean for Manchester United?
A defensive midfielder who is regarded for his tough-tackling demeanour, Saul has a physicality far advanced for his age, and his style of pressing play would fit well into an extremely sterile United team.
Whilst signing a midfielder is not as urgent as the need for defensive reinforcements, there is a lack of urgency and brute force in the Red Devils ranks, and the youngster could fulfil that role. Also proving himself as a goalscoring threat, Saul could develop into a key player for United, and fulfil the box-to-box presence that is so desperately needed at Old Trafford.
