Reid deal reportedly close, Hammers must now focus on keeping key duo

West Ham United need to focus on keeping Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song at the club.

The Daily Mail has reported that West Ham are close to securing the future of key defender Winston Reid.

Reid has been linked with a move away from Upton Park in the recent past, but he now looks set to sign a new contract at West Ham officials deserve a pat on the back.

However, the hard work isn’t over and the same officials at the club have to work hard on keeping two more players at the club; Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song.

Both players are on loan but are key to the side as the Hammers look to move forward and attempt to push for a European place over the rest of the season.

Jenkinson has added balance and a good attacking threat at right-back, as he arrived at the club looking to prove a point to Arsenal.

They stand a good chance of signing him if the make a good offer because of the options Arsene Wenger already has in his position at the Gunners; Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers.

They also stand a good chance of signing Song if they can convince him over a permanent move and if they can get Barcelona to do a deal.

Barca have moved on since he was signed from Arsenal and it’s difficult to see where he fits into Luis Enrique’s plans at the Nou Camp.

Keeping Reid would be a massive statement by the club, that they are determined to keep their best players in core positions.

Jenkinson and Song definitely fall into that category and they would help give West Ham a strong spine running through the team looking ahead to next season.

Initiative has been shown over Reid and initiative needs to be shown to make sure he, Jenkinson and Song all sign on the dotted line of deals which keep them in place.
