AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman has taken to social media to set the record straight regarding his latest injury problems.
The Netherlands international posted a picture of himself on a training bike and was quick to dismiss any claims that he had suffered another setback following his latest knee injury.
According to various reports, including those from the Mirror, Strootman is a long-term target of Manchester United and his former international manager Louis van Gaal still intends to sign the player when he returns to full fitness.
If that is the case, the latest news will be welcomed by those at United, with the 25-year-old explaining where he currently is in terms of his recovery.
“Contrary to reports in the media I am back in training and working hard on my comeback,” Strootman wrote.
“Just for the record, I’m right on schedule to be back when pre-season starts.”
Strootman is exactly the type of midfielder United are crying out for but it remains to be seen if they will take a risk before he has proved he is back to full fitness.
It has been quite some time since he enjoyed a sustained run and there is always a risk in signing players who have suffered serious injuries, and recurrences of said problems.
That said, his age means he still has plenty of time to fully recover and get his hugely promising career back on track.
