Arsenal media round-up: Keown backs Gabriel to become first choice defender

Emirates Inside

A round up of news stories this morning related to Arsenal.

Martin Keown has told the Sport Review that Gabriel could now take Per Mertesacker’s place in the Arsenal defence for good.

The German was dropped for the match against Everton last weekend, with the Brazilian coming into the back four and doing a solid job.

Keown has been impressed by Gabriel’s sheer willingness and desire to straight up defend.

“Gabriel is keen to defend so he’ll be relishing this opportunity to stamp a claim for a first-team spot,” he said.

Former Arsenal star Edu has been quoted by the Daily Mail suggesting Alexis Sanchez can turn into one of the best players in the world.

Sanchez has made a god start to life with the Gunners, scoring 18 goals since he moved from Barcelona last summer.

Edu has also claimed that the Chilean attacker could be considered the best player at the club so far.

“At the moment he is doing fantastically well for Arsenal – he is arguably their best player of the season so far,” he said.

The Daily Mail has reported that West Ham United defender Winston Reid is likely to sign a new contract with his current club.

Reid has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the recent past, but he seems set to commit his future to the East Londoners.

The Mail claims the club’s owners have put an offer to him which is in the region of what he’s looking for.
