The Fiorentina goalkeeper is still on the market, his agent insists, despite reports claiming a move to Juventus has been agreed.
The agent for Fiorentina goalkeeper Norberto Neto has denied reported that his client has agreed to join Juventus in the summer, telling Gianluca Di Marzio that “several teams” remain interested in his services.
Liverpool had been linked with a £2 million winter move for his signature in the wake of Simon Mignolet’s struggles, per the Daily Mirror, while the Daily Mail have also claimed that Arsenal are keeping close tabs on his situation.
However, agent Stefano Castagna has now offered the Premier League pair hope in their respective pursuits, insisting that nothing has been decided on the Brazilian shot-stopper’s future at this point in time.
“He will decided where to go over the next few months,” Castagna said. “There are several teams interested in him but I don't like to name names.”
Signed from Atletico Paranense in 2011 for around £3 million, Neto has since made 81 total appearances as Fiorentina’s first-choice keeper, but found himself dropped for 11 matches this winter after declaring his intent to leave.
He returned to his former place between the sticks for last week’s Europa League visit of Tottenham Hotspur, however, before going on to star in La Viola’s narrow 1-0 win at Inter Milan.
His performance earning him widespread praise, with Italian football outlet Tuttomercatoweb labelling him “superman”, Castagna believes the impressive keeper has proved he deserves a high-profile move, and has called on his current club to respect his decision.
“When a decision is made, regardless of whether one likes it or not, it should be respected,” he said.
“And Neto is an astounding professional. Over five years in Fiorentina he always gave his best in every training session.
“He'll keep this up until the end of the season. If there were any answers to be given, then I'd say they were given on the pitch.”
TMW claimed just last week that Liverpool are still interested in a bosman move for Neto, despite Mignolet’s improved form, but it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will rival them after seeing summer signing David Ospina grab hold of the number one spot in 2015.
