Five alternatives to Radamel Falcao at Manchester United

Radamel Falcao

After just four goals since his loan move from AS Monaco, Radamel Falcao is unlikely to be signed permanently by Manchester United. Here are five alternatives.

Alexandre Lacazette

If Louis van Gaal wanted to move for an in-form striker, look no further than Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette. The French striker has scored 21 league goals already this season and would add both speed and intelligent movement to United’s attack which has been quite stationary for the majority of this campaign. His ability to run in behind causes defenders nightmares and would be most welcome at Old Trafford.

Edinson Cavani

Cavani is not everyone’s cup of tea but he is without doubt one of the best strikers on the continent. The Uruguayan hit-man has not been overly impressive since his move from Napoli to PSG but would be different, more dynamic and powerful option for Van Gaal. Cavani would be expensive but he is a proven goal-scorer, having scored 15+ goals in each of his last seven seasons.

Paulo Dybala

If United wanted to inject some youthful energy into their strike-force, then Paulo Dybala of Palermo is more than a viable option. The 21-year-old, who was once dubbed the new Sergio Aguero has been in great form for the Serie A side this season, scoring 12 times. Van Gaal loves developing talent and would relish working with one of the most talented young forwards in Europe.

Jackson Martinez

Swooping for Martinez would be a risk but it could well be a risk worth taking. Like his Colombian teammate, Falcao, he has been prolific during his time at Porto but is yet to prove himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues. He would come to England with a tremendous goal-scoring pedigree but whether he would be able to adapt to the demands of the Premier League is a different story.

Gareth Bale

Bale has the potential to develop into a complete forward, if he isn’t one already. He would not be a direct Falcao replacement but the money set aside for the Colombian could be used to lure Bale back to England. There is no doubting he would be a phenomenal coup for United but whether they would be able to secure his services is debatable. With the Real Madrid booing his frustrating displays in recent times, there is at least some hope for United fans.

Should Man Utd sign Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis and if not, who should replace him this summer?
