Adnan Januzaj was voted man of the match by supporters on the club's Facebook page after Manchester United beat Gus Poyet’s Sunderland 2-0 at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old earned 45 percent of the vote, beating competition from Wayne Rooney (35%) and Ashley Young (20%) to earn the accolade as United convincingly beat Sunderland, courtesy of two goals in the second-half.
The result was never really in doubt, despite a disappointing first-half, as the Red Devils recorded more than 70% of the possession and 30 shots at goal. In comparison, Sunderland mustered just the five with only three hitting the target.
Although he only played half the match, the impact by Januzaj was certainly noticeable following Angel di Maria’s very poor first-half.
The Belgian international injected energy and quality into the game and played a huge part in United’s dominance in the second-half, which ultimately won them the three points on the day.
With Newcastle up next, Januzaj will be hoping that his showing in the second-half will have impressed Louis van Gaal as much as the fans and earn him a place in the side on Wednesday.
Following Liverpool's impressive win over Manchester City on Sunday, Van Gaal will undoubtedly be feeling the pressure from Rodgers' side but knows that it's still in their hands. If they can replicate their second-half performance against Sunderland for the rest of the season then a Champions League spot for next season won't be in question.
