Newcastle United are interested in signing Genk star Kara Mbodj in the summer, according to The Sun.
The British tabloid reports that the Magpies have “taken a shine” to the 25-year-old, who can play both as a centre-back and as a defensive midfielder.
Mbodj has been in impressive form this season while playing under former Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest manager Alex McLeish.
Interestingly, West Ham United have also been credited with an interest in the strong and powerful Senegal international.
Both Newcastle and West Ham will be looking for defensive reinforcements for next season, and it will be fascinating to see their battle for Mbodj.
One suspects that between Newcastle and West Ham, the latter would be the more lucrative choice, especially if they qualify for the Europa League.
West Ham are hugely ambitious and will move into a new stadium soon. They also aim to break into the Champions League places in the coming years.
