Newcastle United manager John Carver has told the Shields Gazette that Rolando Aarons is unlikely to be fit for up to ten days.
The winger was on course to return to the side after a hamstring problem, but has suffered a setback and is unlikely to be available for the next week-and-a-half.
“A week to 10 days. We are being careful with him. He has a hamstring issue and tweaked his thigh,” said the manager.
The news will be a blow for Carver because Aarons is one of the most talented players in the Magpies’ current youth system.
He’s made the step up to the first team and has excelled this season as he looks for more consistent opportunities in the first team.
Newcastle host Manchester United in the Premier League this week before a trip to Everton when the league action returns after a break for the FA Cup.
It’s important Carver doesn’t rush Aarons back into the side because that could ultimately keep him out of the team for even longer.
With the Magpies chasing a top eight place over the rest of the season, Aarons is going to be a vital impact player coming into the side to attack in wide areas.
