Paul Merson doesn't believe Tottenham looked at all like breaking Chelsea down at Wembley.
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson does not believe Tottenham ever looked like scoring in the Capital One Cup final against Chelsea.
Speaking to SkySports, Merson even had a little joke at their expense, stating he thinks even 24 hours on they would not have found the net.
He said: "They started off well at Wembley, but I think if they were still playing now they wouldn’t have scored!
"It just wasn’t their day, especially with two deflected goals."
Spurs did have only two shots on target during the match, coming closest from a Christian Eriksen set piece.
It was in part due to Jose Mourinho's defensive approach which stifled their creativity, playing centre-back Kurt Zouma in defensive midfield to shield Gary Cahill and John Terry.
This meant Tottenham were a shadow of the incisive side which battered the Blues 5-3 at Stamford Bridge exactly two months earlier at White Hart Lane.
Harry Kane scored twice in that match, but only had one shot on target at Wembley, and while he vented his frustration to SpursTV about Chelsea's good fortune, the defending of Terry and co made it nigh on impossible to really test Petr Cech and stake their own claim to the trophy.
