John Terry is backing Derby County to be promoted to the Premier League.
Terry was the central figure in a feature looking back at the Blues’ League Cup performances this season, where they faced the Rams away from home.
Derby lost that game 3-1 but Terry has suggested that the Rams left a lasting impression on him.
“I really think Derby will get promoted to the Premier League – they were a difficult team to play against,” said Terry.
Derby sit top of the Championship as things stand, two points ahead of Middlesbrough in the table.
They have an impressive attacking and defensive record this season, a three point gap from the play-offs and an experienced manager who did well to improve the squad during the January transfer window.
The Rams can’t afford to get remotely complacent because the gap from the sides in the play-off positions is so small.
A couple of bad results and the side could have seen their lead at the top of the table disintegrate.
However, if McClaren can rotate effectively, keep everyone fresh and get the side picking up points in important games, there’s no reason why the Rams can’t be a Premier League team next season.
