A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Monday morning.
Liverpool took a massive step towards qualifying for next season's Champions League after a 2-1 win over Manchester City at Anfield yesterday, which moved them up to fifth in the Premier League.
The Welshman told the Liverpool Echo: “With his performances recently, Philippe has taken things to the next level. The Brazilian team is obviously full of talent but he has to be really pushing for that.
“Working with him day in day out, he shows his quality every time he trains and plays and he scored a superb winner to get us the three points.
“He’s so unpredictable and that’s such a good skill to have. He has the ability to turn both ways."
The game which kicked off at Midday came soon after Liverpool had been in Europa League action on the Thursday night when they played Besiktas in Istanbul.
Having played extra time in Turkey, there were worries that fatigue would catch up with Brendan Rodgers's side, after they returned to Merseyside during the early hours of Friday morning.
Rodgers told reporters after yesterday's win: “We got in at 4.30am on Friday and were back home at six. To prepare yourself for a game against the champions after that is no mean feat.
“So you have to take your hat off to them, because the performance was at a really top level. I have nothing but admiration for them.”
Next up for Liverpool is another game in the Premier League against Burnley at Anfield as they look to continue their good run of form and put more pressure on their rival for the Champions League places on Wednesday night.
