Semi Ajayi appeared on the fringes of the Arsenal first team squad earlier this season, but his time at the club could be coming to a close.
The 21-year-old centre-back signed for the club two summers ago from Charlton Athletic, and has played 10 times for the under-21s this season.
Last night he was however in action for another side, scoring twice for Cardiff City's development squad in a win over Coventry City.
54 - GOAL!!! Semi Ajayi with a powerful effort, finding space in the area from @tomosullivan10's corner kick. (3-0)— Cardiff City DVP (@CardiffCityDVP) March 2, 2015
85 - GOAL!!! Semi Ajayi with his second of the match, diverting the ball in after @CurtWatkins5 had initially met the corner kick. (4-2)— Cardiff City DVP (@CardiffCityDVP) March 2, 2015
Ajayi's contract with Arsenal expires this June and he has clearly been given the green light to try and earn a permanent deal elsewhere.
It is not his first trial spell either, spending time with Ipswich Town in late January, as reported the East Anglian Daily Press at the time.
The defender had been training with Arsenal's first team earlier this season, with Arsene Wenger including him in the squad for their Capital One Cup defeat to Southampton back in September.
It was always going to be a tall order for him to break into the first team, but his positive strides this season must be matched with his career development long-term, and he needs to go to a team where he will get chances.
As far as trials go, his match for Cardiff last night was certainly one where he will have left an impression.
