Valencia boss warns suitors that Arsenal-liked star is happy at the club

Valencia star Jose Gaya is attracting interest from Real Madrid and Arsenal, reports claim.

Valencia boss Nuno has addressed reporters for Spanish publication AS on the subject of defender Jose Gaya by claiming the defender is ‘happy’ at the club.

According to recent reports in the Express, Arsenal have taken a strong interest in the promising full-back and were knocked back in a £15 million approach during the January transfer window.

However, the latest news in Spain suggests that the Gunners have strong competition as current La Liga leaders Real Madrid are also said to be in the reckoning for his signature.

In the build-up to Valencia’s clash against David Moyes’ Real Sociedad, questions were fired towards boss Nuno asking for his take on the reported interest in the Mestalla outfit’s star defender.

In a snappy response, the Portuguese coach warned potential suitors that Gaya is a dedicated professional and claimed he is currently delighted to be representing Los Che.

“Gayà is a Valencia player. He’s happy here and he shows it every day. For him, every game represents a challenge to improve,” Nuno told reporters for AS.

“He’s a charming young man and a serious and dedicated professional. I’m delighted with Gayà and he’s delighted to be here.”

The 19-year-old has started 21 La Liga matches for Nuno’s men this season and has drawn parallels with Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba, who also came through the Valencia youth set-up.

The Gunners currently boast two Spaniards in the full-back roles – Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal – but their injury crisis has left them short on occasions this season.

Despite the January signing of Brazilian ace Gabriel Paulista, the North Londoners arguably need further defensive reinforcements this summer and young full-back Gaya would represent a sound option.
