Mikel Arteta praises Arsenal fans and speaks about 'big disappointments'

Arsenal's captain has been speaking ahead of the clash against Everton.

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has been reflecting on the club’s support in programme notes published by the club’s official website.

The Spaniard was speaking in the build-up to Arsenal’s Premier League match against Everton on Sunday, with the Gunners aiming to move back ahead of Manchester United into third place in the table.

Arsenal recently suffered a disappointing first-leg defeat to AS Monaco in the last-16 of the Champions League, and the Gunners skipper believes the club’s fans will be vital as they look to get a much-needed victory under their belts.

“The atmosphere in the stadium might be a bit tense after what happened on Wednesday night,” Arteta said.

But despite the 3-1 reverse Arsenal’s fans still have plenty to be hopeful for, with their league campaign going well, an FA Cup to defend and a chance to turn things around against the French side in the second leg.

Whatever happens Arteta knows the importance of those people who support them through thick and thin, and he was honest in his assessment of Arsenal’s recent past, pointing out that things had not always gone their way.

“It’s amazing and they’ve been superb,” he said of the atmosphere and the support, “because in the last few years, there’ve been some big disappointments but they’ve always been there.”
