Liverpool laid down an emphatic marker for the rest of the season as they defeated reigning Premier League champions Manchester City 2-1 this weekend.
The Blues were hoping to cut the gap on league leaders Chelsea to just two points, but they could not take advantage of Chelsea’s presence in the League Cup final, as goals from Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho sealed the Reds' win.
Edin Dzeko’s goal was a mere consolation, with Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling providing both assists on the day.
The 20-year-old did the relatively easy work before Henderson curled in a fine opener and Coutinho netted a 25-yard winner to add to his list of outstanding strikes, but he was still there to play the vital passes.

The Liverpool youngster's passing accuracy was not as high as he would have hoped, at just 71 per cent, but he won eight duels in a feisty encounter and had two shots of his own - one of which was on target.
He also went on four dribbles to cause issues for a City back-line that has not looked sturdy for quite some time.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what Liverpool fans thought of Sterling's performance and you can read a selection of what we found below, with some very mixed reactions:

Sterling disappointed and Lallana frustrated, he gets himself into some good positions but decision making/execution poor. #lfc— Jamie (@lfcjamie) March 1, 2015

And Sterling. Won't criticise on this game & he contributed, but frustrated me a lot. Some fake work rate, poor runs, no touch, bad choices.— Karl Matchett (@karlmatchett) March 1, 2015
