Joey Barton leads Twitter tributes to Gutierrez, Newcastle players react to win

The Argentine made an emotional return to Newcastle United's matchday squad on Saturday afternoon and was congratulated by the QPR man.

Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton was one of the big names to congratulate Jonas Gutierrez after his comeback to the Newcastle United matchday squad.

The Argentine suffered from testicular cancer but was given the all clear and yesterday returned to the substitutes’ bench for the first time since his illness.

And QPR midfielder Barton, a former Newcastle man, was keen to send a message to the 31-year-old, even though he didn’t actually come on during the 1-0 win against Aston Villa.

The rest of Newcastle’s stars also joined the QPR skipper in paying tribute to Gutierrez’s phenomenal achievement, while many took to Twitter to reflect on a hard-earned three points against Tim Sherwood’s Villa side.

It’s been a second half of the season to forget for the Magpies – just like it was last term. Newcastle, however, gave their fans something to cheer as Papiss Cisse struck to give them all three points at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Here’s some of the best of their player reaction to the win on Twitter, as well as the messages to team-mate Gutierrez.
