Chelsea defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at London’s Wembley Stadium to win the League Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Gary Lineker has suggested that Chelsea have done a domestic double today.

The 54-year-old former England international striker made the comment on social networking site Twitter following the Blues’ League Cup triumph.

Chelsea got the better of Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at London’s Wembley Stadium this evening to win the League Cup, their first major trophy in Mourinho’s second spell in charge of the club.

John Terry put the Blues in the lead on the stroke of half time, and Kyle Walker scored an own goal in the 56th minute.

Although Spurs had chances throughout the 90 minutes, the North London outfit failed to match Chelsea.

There was more joy for the Blues today, as their nearest challengers for the Premier League title lost.

Second-placed Manchester City suffered a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield earlier today and remain five points off the pace.

As Chelsea have played a game fewer than the defending English champions, they are potentially eight points clear at the top of the table.

Former Tottenham star Lineker seems to believe that City will not be able to catch Jose Mourinho’s side and made the following post on Twitter.

It is a bold comment from Lineker, but it could well turn out to be true. Although Chelsea saw an eight-point lead reduced earlier this campaign, at this stage of the season it will be a surprise if they repeat the same mistake.
