Criticised ex-Tottenham star Gareth Bale “fighting and positive” - Carlo Ancelotti

The Welshman has come in for criticism over recent months, but the Italian coach has stated that the winger is playing well.

Gareth Bale has had a tumultuous first 18 months at Real Madrid, with notable highs and lows for the former Tottenham star in the Spanish capital.

Despite playing his part in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu outfit being crowned European champions last season, 2014-15 has been slightly more difficult for the world’s most expensive player.

Bale has come in for criticism in the Spanish press and been accused of being selfish, while his team-mates have been captured venting their frustration at him on occasion.

Despite this, Carlo Ancelotti has stated that the Wales international has been working hard in recent matches and is an important member of the Madrid starting XI.

"In the last few games, Bale has shown a good attitude. He has fought, won and sacrificed like everyone else,” the former Chelsea manager told FIFA.com.

"He needs to continue like this. We need a Bale that always has a positive attitude.”

Bale has gone through something of a mini goal drought of late, and has not scored in his last six outings for Ancelotti’s men.

Despite this, the Welshman has scored 10 La Liga goals this season in 21 games and also offered up five assists.

Madrid take on Villarreal today and will hope to extend their advantage at the top of the La Liga table.
