Brendan Rodgers hails 'sensational' Liverpool player Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool's manager has been reflecting on their latest win, at home to Manchester City.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the club’s official website following his side’s 2-1 win against Manchester City this weekend.

Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho scored for the Reds, either side of an Edin Dzeko effort for the Blues that turned out to be a mere consolation.

Coutinho is starting to score far more regularly and having recently signed a new long-term deal at the club, the future looks very bright for the Brazilian.

After his latest goal, he was praised by Rodgers, who said, “People forget he came to us at 20, still developing and adapting to a new country.

“He’s a sensational footballer and now he’s starting to add the goals to mirror that quality.”

Coutinho’s latest strike was his fifth of the season and his second in his last two league appearances.

The 22-year-old is getting into the habit of scoring outstanding goals having done the same against Bolton Wanderers and Southampton this season, and it seems he is now a goal-threat every bit as effective as some of the top-flight’s best play-makers.

Now the trick is to do it even more regularly, but whatever happens over the next few months, it is clear Liverpool have a future great on their hands.
