Joel Campbell’s loan club Villarreal were drawn against fellow Spaniards Sevilla in the Europa League last 16.

Arsenal striker Joel Campbell took to Twitter in order to comment on loan side Villarreal drawing Europa League holders and fellow Spaniards Sevilla in the last 16 knockout stage.

The Yellow Submarines advanced to the next round after successfully dispatching Austrian champions Salzburg 5-2 over two legs in an exciting match-up.

Sevilla, on the other hand, kept the La Liga flag flying high by seeing off Bundesliga giants Borussia Monchengladbach 3-2 in Germany on Thursday, completing a 5-3 aggregate win.

With Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur’s exit confirmed, the two Spanish outfits are now among the tournament favourites.

However, in what would make an excellent final encounter, the two domestic rivals were paired together as early as the last 16-round, prompting Villarreal loan star Campbell to Tweet:

“Beautiful challenge in the Europa League against a great team like Sevilla.”

Campbell traded the Gunners for El Madrigal on a six-month loan during the January transfer window, with Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista heading the other way on a permanent deal.

The Costa Rica international found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Emirates Stadium, but so far in Spain his fortunes have changed and he has been involved.

However, after three La Liga games and further appearances in the Europa League and Copa del Rey, striker Campbell has yet to really make an impact after being selected to play in a right wing role.
