The 21-year-old attacking midfielder currently plays for French side Lyon, and in comments recently published by Foot Mercato he said he had no intention of moving to the Gunners simply to sit on the bench.
Fekir has played 43 matches for Lyon, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists in that time, and now L’Equipe has published an update on the youngster’s contract situation.
The alleged Arsenal target already has a contract until 2019, but discussions over improved terms reportedly began in late January.
The story claims Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas was prepared to send a new deal to the player for discussion only for Fekir to part company with his agents.
The story concludes with the claim that no further meetings between Fekir and Lyon have taken place since that sit-down on January 23.
Arsenal have signed a number of young players in the past, with varying degrees of success, and having cited the difficulties of making it at a club with so much quality talent, Fekir may well opt for a long-term stay in France.
But as he said in that interview published by Foot Mercato, “You never know.”
