Photo: Bentaleb's fighting spirit means he should be Spurs captain after Lloris

Nabil Bentaleb is the perfect candidate to one day take over the captaincy at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur’s current captain, Hugo Lloris, will remain at the club for quite some time if he sees out a contract that runs until the summer of 2019. So discussing potential future skippers at White Hart Lane may seem rather pointless at this stage.

But one Spurs player in particular is demonstrating all the traits necessary to ultimately take over from the Frenchman, and his performance last weekend provided a striking image that proves just how good he would be with the armband.

Nabil Bentaleb returned from the Africa Cup of Nations just when Tottenham needed him the most, with the Capital One Cup final against Chelsea fast approaching and plenty of Premier League action still to come.

Against West Ham United, Tottenham were below par and owed their 2-2 draw to a late fight-back that spoke volumes about their character, with Bentaleb in particular impressing.

Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen may take the headlines, but the 20-year-old Algerian international gets better by the week and against the Hammers he showed his fighting spirit at its best.

He refused to give up, roared at the crowd, led by example and looked like very much like a skipper-in-the-making.

That he is only 20 is wonderful for Spurs, as he has years to blossom, and when Lloris does finally hand over the captaincy Bentaleb will be the perfect age for such a responsibility.
