Manchester United round-up: Early team news; Brazilian pleased with rumours

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United take on Sunderland this afternoon in the Premier League, with Louis van Gaal’s side looking to maintain their place in the top four.

United lost 2-1 to Swansea City last time out and they cannot afford two defeats on the bounce, but it will not be easy against a Sunderland side desperate for points of their own.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Robin van Persie is out with an ankle injury but there is better news regarding fellow striker James Wilson, who has recovered from a dead leg.

Michael Carrick has returned to training but he is not yet ready for first-team action.

As for Sunderland, they are without the injured Emanuele Giaccherini, Billy Jones and Jack Rodwell.

In other news, Goal.com has published comments Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos gave to L’Equipe.

The 20-year-old was talking about alleged interest from United, saying of PSG’s refusal to negotiate a possible move, “It proves PSG count on me but, to be honest, it gives me pleasure to see Manchester United are interested in me. It gives me validation.”

The Brazilian centre-back has made 60 appearances for the Ligue 1 side and he is highly-rated, but United may be wiser moving for more experienced centre-backs in the summer.
