Lazar Markovic on why he chose Liverpool and the football style he favours

Lazar Markovic has opened up about Liverpool ahead of a huge match on Sunday.

Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has been speaking to the club’s official website ahead of the Reds’ vital clash with Manchester City this weekend.

The Serbian signed for Liverpool from Benfica for a reported £20million last summer, and he has been talking about why he decided to move to Anfield.

“I watch a lot of football on television and last season Liverpool were the best team in the Premier League,” Markovic said.

“The football played was really exciting. As soon as Liverpool made the offer I made it clear that I wanted to come here and the deal was settled quite easily.

“The manager wants the team to attack and score goals. This is the football I like most.”

Markovic took time to settle at Liverpool, putting in some disappointing performances in his first few months at the club. But things have since taken a big turn for the better and the 20-year-old is now showing what he can do on a consistent basis.

Markovic has now made 28 appearances for Liverpool, scoring three goals and providing one assist to date, and having seen him develop at Benfica it is clear the Reds have a player who is destined for the top of the game.

He was always going to take time to settle and next season is likely to be when he shows what he is really capable of, at which point Liverpool fans are in for a treat…
