Axel Witsel would love to face Everton in the Europa League ... but he will have to wait.
Everton are left flying the flag for Britain in the Europa League after last night. Celtic were dumped out by Inter Milan, Tottenham humbled by Fiorentina and Liverpool had a second night in Istanbul, this one they would rather forget.
Meanwhile Everton romped home against Swiss side Young Boys winning 3-1 on the night and 7-2 on aggregate.
There was no doubt who the star of the tie was. Romelu Lukaku was excellent for Everton, scoring five of their seven goals over two legs.
Last night it was he and Kevin Mirallas who did the damage, a win made in Belgium.
Now an international team-mate has his eyes set on the pair. Axel Witsel was part of the Zenit St Petersburg side that put PSV Eindhoven to the sword last night. They won 4-0 on aggregate and Andre Villas-Boas' men must be considered one of the favourites for winning the tournament outright.
This morning Witsel had a message for the Everton pair ahead of the draw for the round of 16 ties. He posted on Twitter:
The trio, all Belgian international team-mates, would certainly love to go up against each other next month for a place in the quarter finals.
Unfortunately, he won't get the chance. Instead, Everton will face Dynamo Kiev. But with both teams among the favourites for the title - he may still get a chance to meet them yet.
