Arsene Wenger said he’s expecting a strong response from Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend.
The Gunners were well beaten in the Champions League by Monaco earlier this week and Arsenal fans will be keen to see a more impressive performance as the team looks to defend their position in the top four.
“I expect a strong response because it's a different competition. We have an opportunity to maintain our top-three position,” said Wenger.
“We fought very hard against Besiktas to qualify. What's frustrating is that we've gone out in the last 16 in the last four years.”
“There is nobody to blame individually. On the night everything went against us and missing chances was only one characteristic.”
The game against Everton provides a different dynamic but it won’t be any easier against a side in decent form.
The Toffees were the only British side to make it through to the next round in the Europa League, winning their tie against Young Boys by a five goal margin.
They will be confident and if Arsenal don’t respond well individually and collectively, the Toffees have enough about them in terms of quality and experience to force a result.
Defensively, Arsenal should tighten up. The side have been guilty of poor defending in Europe throughout this season, but they have plugged away in the Premier League to get into third place.
Arsenal face Everton, QPR and West Ham United in the Premier League and visit Manchester United in the FA Cup before the return leg against Monaco.
It will be interesting to see if they can build some momentum, which will help them turn things around by the time that European tie comes around.
