Tottenham player ratings against Fiorentina: Christian Eriksen can hold his head up

Christian Eriksen FK

Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-0 at the hands of Fiorentina in the Europa League last night to exit the competition.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino will be disappointed that his team didn’t put up more of a fight in the Europa League game against Fiorentina last night.

Spurs went out of the competition after losing 3-1 over the two legs and Pochettino must now pick the side up and get them feeling positive ahead of the League Cup final this weekend.

Here are our player ratings for the game last week.

Lloris – 6

Not his best performance, but his all round game looked solid. Good save to deny Salah.

Chiriches – 5

Struggled on the right hand side of defence against the pace and skill being directed at him. However, it’s not his best position.

Fazio – 5

His lack of pace was exposed when experienced striker Mario Gomez was able to race through and slot past Lloris.

Vertonghen – 5

Decent in patches, but he made poor decisions on two occasions, which both led directly to Fiorentina’s goals.

Davies – 5

Struggled against the pace of Salah. Could have maybe positioned himself more effectively, but has done his chances of starting this weekend much good.

Stambouli – 6

Lost count of the number of times he was left exposed against more than one opponent. Worked hard throughout.

Bentaleb – 6

Didn’t look like the player he has been for the club in recent matches. Brushed off the ball in physical challenges far too easily.

Chadli – 5

He’ll definitely have better games. A little wasteful with his finishing, which could have made the difference.

Eriksen – 7

Worked his socks off throughout the game and always seemed to be looking for the ball from other midfielders, before turning to try and create something in attack.

Lamela – 5

Struggled to get into the game. Looked like Fiorentina found an effective way to take him out of the game and he didn’t react.

Soldado – 5

Lacking in confidence, which was demonstrated when he went for a pass rather than a shot from a one on one.

Subs

Townsend – 6

Came on, injected pace into the team and played with real purpose down the left.

Walker – 5

Thrown on for the last quarter of an hour. Got forward and tried to make a difference but was closed down effectively.

Kane – N/A
