Rangers fans give mixed reaction on Twitter to Andy Murdoch's new contract

Supporters of the Scottish Championship side have had their say on social media after the 20-year-old was handed a new contract lasting until 2017.

Rangers fans appear to have split into two camps on Twitter after news broke that Andy Murdoch has been given a new contract by the club.

On the one hand, the 20-year-old has been terrific of late for the Gers, scoring his first goal for the side and providing a breath of fresh air during a dark time for the Scottish Championship outfit.

On the other hand, however, this is a teenager that has played a handful of games for Rangers - is that really enough of a basis to hand him a new deal?

Those pleased with the contract will no doubt point to Murdoch's promising future. He has already drawn praise from former Rangers striker Gordon Durie and also suggested he wants to emulate former Gers midfielder Lewis Macleod, who moved to Brentford for £1 million earlier this season.

Rangers fans will no doubt hope he doesn't fully emulate Macleod, of course, meaning he will instead stay at Ibrox for the long term.

Critics may suggest the youngster should have been given more time, though, before actually being handed a new contract.

Here's a selection of what Rangers supporters have been saying in the wake of Murdoch's new deal on Twitter...
