The Dutch international has suffered a torn groin and collapsed lung this season.
He reportedly cost the club £6 million, according to the Daily Mail, which looked a bargain for the attacking midfielder turned striker.
However it has not quite gone to plan for the 26-year-old since his arrival at the club.
He suffered a torn groin muscle in September and had was ruled out until the new year. It looked like he was set to return to action in the coming weeks, until he suffered another problem.
He suffered a collapsed lung earlier in the month and underwent surgery to remedy a problem he has suffered before whilst at Ajax two years ago.
He has been ruled out of action for the next eight weeks, essentially finishing off a season that has never really got off the ground.
Now the Dutchman has given another update on his injury troubles. He took to Instagram yesterday evening to send a message to his fans, telling them he has another X-ray today and is feeling better, two weeks on from the incident.
Newcastle United fans will be hoping to get a look at him before the end of a dismal debut season for the talented Dutchman.
