Roberto Martinez has said that Darron Gibson is a unique quantity in his Everton side at a press conference earlier today.
Gibson has struggled for game time in recent seasons at Goodison Park, with a series of injuries thwarting his progress, but it seems Martinez is still a fan of his quality.
The Spaniard believes he offers something different to the likes of Gareth Barry, Muhamed Besic and James McCarthy and expects him to play a big part for the remainder of the campaign.
RM: "Darron [Gibson] is quite unique in what he offers us. We're delighted to have him back and need to make sure we look after him now."— Everton (@Everton) February 27, 2015
Gibson made just his 13th appearance of the campaign in Everton's 3-1 win over Young Boys last night, and it was an encouraging display.
On his day, the 27-year-old can be a driving force in midfield, but his fitness issues have stopped him reaching his optimum performance levels.
He will be aiming to have a lengthy spell away from the treatment table now, though, and it seems that Martinez feels he will be able to force his way into the team if he does.
Everton's showings this season have lacked purpose, with the side still languishing in the bottom half of the table, but Gibson has the ability to change this if he can keep himself fit, and that will be his intention between now and May as the Toffees look to climb the Premier League table and compete in Europe.
