Memphis Depay switches from Adidas to Under Armour. Might not yet be the last switch he makes in 2015.. pic.twitter.com/nlzDOX42dY— Priya Ramesh (@Priya8Ramesh) February 27, 2015
Earlier this month, despite the transfer window slamming shut, The Express claimed to know the number one target for Manchester United in the summer.
They claimed that Memphis Depay, the 20-year-old Netherlands international, is the man in question. They state that United will make a £10 million move for the player this summer.
Depay was a member of Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad at the 2014 World Cup and caught the eye with some good performances for his nation.
He has been in terrific form for PSV Eindhoven this season, scoring 21 goals in 30 appearances for the Dutch giants.
Earlier this week it was reported that United feared Tottenham were taking the lead in the race for the coveted 'Dutch Ronaldo', as reported by Goal.
Developments today will have United even more worried.
Depay has switched his personal sponsorship deal from Adidas, who are taking over kit manufacturing rights at Manchester United from Nike as of the summer, to Under Armour, the company who currently make Tottenham's kits.
The news was confirmed by Yahoo! Finance, who also quoted Depay on his decision to switch the German company for the Americans:
"On and off the pitch I'm always ready for the next chapter in my life.
"I wanted Under Armour in my corner because they will help me elevate my game until I reach my dreams. I'm going to help Under Armour bring the impact they've had in American Football, Basketball and sport performance to the football pitch."
Depay even posed in a picture wearing the new brand.
Of course this could just be a coincidence. But leaving one company, who are the brand new manufacturers for one transfer rival, for the company who makes another's?
Tottenham fans can surely start to get excited.
