How Harry Kane has proven one of Sherwood's bold Spurs claims right

Defence - Spurs v Chelsea

The Aston Villa boss has been thanked by his former striker at Tottenham Hotspur.

Harry Kane has thanked Tim Sherwood for the part he played in launching his Tottenham career - and backed up one of his recent claims in the process, according to Sport Magazine.

The Aston Villa boss was in typically bullish mood before he took charge of his first game at Villa Park - a mood that somewhat softened after defeat to Stoke City - and made a series of bold claims about his Spurs tenure.

Tottenham fans later debated those claims on HITC Sport, with plenty of them appearing a fragrant misrepresentation of the truth.

One claim Sherwood did make, though, appears to stand to reason - that Kane wouldn't be where he is now at White Hart Lane without the Aston Villa boss.

"If I hadn't resisted the club wanting to loan him out last January, he wouldn't be Harry Kane now," the 45-year-old said.

And Kane's interview with Sport Magazine has proven Sherwood right in that regard, with the 21-year-old Tottenham talisman thanking the now Aston Villa manager for his guidance in north London.

He said: “I was quite lucky. Tim Sherwood first of all played me in the Premier League. I knew Tim from the development squad and we had a great relationship. He threw me in when maybe other managers wouldn’t have. Maybe that’s what a few more young strikers coming through need.”

Tottenham face Chelsea in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon on the back of a 2-0 loss at Fiorentina on Thursday night. That defeat eliminated Spurs from Europe but Mauricio Pochettino's men can still end the week as trophy winners.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, travel to Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
