Gary Lineker and Robbie Savage react to Tottenham's performance

Tottenham's defending was criticised during their defeat to Fiorentina.

Tottenham had their problems in attack with the poor decision making from Roberto Soldado against Fiorentina, but defensively they did not help themselves either.

Spurs were opened up by the Italians too regularly considering they limited the home side to only 37 per cent of possession.

When Fiorentina did get through, they looked dangerous, and scored with two of their four shots on target, through Mario Gomez and Mohamed Salah, on loan from Chelsea.

Their defending was criticised by pundits Gary Lineker and Robbie Savage, who did not hold back in their assessment of Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Spurs won only seven aerial duels compared to 16 from Fiorentina, while individual errors from centre-backs Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen contributed to each of the home side's goals.

Fazio meanwhile did not win a single tackle during the game, with Vertonghen making three. Out of favour Vlad Chiriches made the most with four.

Eric Dier could come back into the team at the weekend at centre-back in Fazio's place, while Danny Rose and Kyle Walker may also replace Ben Davies and Vlad Chiriches. Something needs to change at Wembley because if they do defend like they did in Italy then they will struggle to win the Capital One Cup.
